Last week, a friend and I, were on the hunt, as we were driving in El Segundo, California. Most people know El Segundo, as a “drive through city” to get someplace else, but for those who have a little more time, please stop in El Segundo.
The restaurant “Chef Hannes”, is a find. Located on Main Street in the old downtown district, it offers European style dining, for lunch and dinner. This may be the best-kept secret in the South Bay. It is old-world décor, with European flair. Seating is inside, or in their beautiful outside patio. In 15 years, the owner has served royalty, governors, and film stars.
It says it is an Italian restaurant but If you ask, they will tell you their food is “Continental Mediterranean”. Yes, it starts with fresh baked, hot bread, a mother’s recipe spread, that you want to repeat over and over. Open the menu, and be ready for a nice surprise; many choices, and reasonable prices add to their generous portions. Little by little, the room was filled with regular customers.
I saved the best for last. The hostess offers hospitality that is so unique. She asked us to taste five or six different wines, before placing our wine order. She wanted us to have the best complement to our food. Now, you really feel pampered. Enjoy!
