Some may say that Taverna Tony is a true import, from the Greek Isles. Located on Cross Creek Rd. in the heart of Malibu, it is in the same location, as the restaurant owned by Ali McGraw. It has the same blue and white color scheme, but the patio with the bougainvillea overhang, makes for a different, more cordial, Mediterranean ambiance.
If you want good, solid Greek food, this is the place. In particular, there are plenty of lamb dishes on the menu. Coming in the main entrance, you face a long bar, but turn left or right to view the large dining room. And in the north corner, you will hear live music, that adds to the Greek atmosphere, on weekends.
Be sure to make a reservation, or you may not be seated. Taverna Tony is popular, with many families and large groups dining there. On occasion, an actor or actress may be sighted, such as Goldie Hawn. It offers a full menu, using fresh ingredients, following ancient family recipes. Also, portions are large enough to share. Their homemade bread is baked daily, and the wine list includes specialty Greek wines. To finish, they have homemade desserts.
